Digital twins for autonomous unmanned surface vehicles
Modelling autonomous surface vessels as digital twins, validated through a proof of concept built on a custom application
Researcher in Digital Twins, Embedded Systems & Autonomous Vessels
Cássio J. D. Silva is an M.Sc. student in Computer Science at PUCRS (PPGCC), embedded systems research line, advised by Prof. Dr. César A. M. Marcon and co-advised by Prof. Dr. Anderson R. P. Domingues. Silva models autonomous unmanned surface vehicles as digital twins and tests the models against a proof of concept built on a custom application, as a CNPq DTI-C fellow on the Jundiá project at the Laboratory of Autonomous Systems. Earlier work covers fault injection in avionics software (AIM-FTA, ArduPilot SITL), machine learning for sleep apnea prediction (SleepSensing), mixed reality for mathematics education (LEPIMAT), Android NFC and RFID development at CEITEC, and business analytics at RCI.
Cássio J. D. Silva works where computing meets physical processes: embedded systems, sensing, telemetry, control, simulation environments, and digital twin architectures for monitoring and validation.
At the Laboratory of Autonomous Systems (LSA) Silva builds fault-tolerance benchmarks and ROS 2 integration for Jundiá, a simulation platform for autonomous vessels operating offshore. The master's research models those vessels as digital twins and validates the models against a proof of concept on a custom application.
At the Laboratory of Embedded Systems (LSE) Silva writes ETL pipelines and trains classifiers that predict obstructive sleep apnea from polysomnography, SpO₂, ECG and thoracic effort signals.
Earlier work injected faults into ArduPilot SITL to measure silent data corruption in the EKF3 estimator, developed mixed reality applications for inclusive mathematics education at LEPIMAT, analyzed facial expression data at the Virtual Humans Simulation Laboratory, produced Android applications for NFC and RFID tags at CEITEC S.A., and built business analytics at RCI.
